Building a Solid MLM Business

So many struggling MLM’ers are failing in this industry and it is not due to lack of effort. Most go their whole lives wishing for more out of life and never even make the attempt to better their situations. Everyone actually working to accomplish their dreams deserves to be applauded however I hate to see their efforts wasted.

A disturbing trend I have noticed is that individuals are getting involved with one opportunity after another whether it is an MLM, affiliate, referral etc… You have seen these people; you know the ones with one tweet after another promoting everything under the sun.

They then jump right into social networking with the single focused intent to promote (sell) anything and everything they can.

Mistake #1: Indiscriminately promoting anything and everything! You must first form a business plan and carefully chose what it is you are willing to promote. Your reputation is on the line.

In any business, but especially small business, you need to target one specific audience with laser precision. Determine what your niche is and focus all of your energy on that.

Successful marketers start by determining what is needed and then develop products and services to meet those needs. They don’t blanket the universe with random ads hoping someone will see it and buy.

This brings us to a related mistake. Whether it is on Myspace, Facebook, Twitter or anywhere else most people are using social networking sites for advertising and only advertising. Most “tweets” are 100% sales messages. Myspace group posts are all advertising messages. There aren’t even forum posts anymore!

Mistake #2: Forgetting to “network” on social networking sites. Your goal should be to position yourself as an adviser, be of service and genuinely connect with others if you are looking to build a strong MLM business.

Which brings us to our question…

Are You Looking to Make a Couple Sales or Build an MLM Business?

Its possible you can work your fingers to the bone and make a few sales in the process by tweeting your heart out, posting ads on Craigslist and so on… but then what? Once you stop…so does the meager sales you might have generated (if you were lucky).

Mistake #3: Jumping into social networking, PPC campaigns and any other advertising before you have built a business to promote. You must first build YOUR business before you promote anything and what you promote should fit into YOUR business plan.

Many “MLM Gurus” will feed you genius little insights into marketing principles. They will excite you with thoughts about attraction marketing. They will give you a piece of the puzzle here and there and then bait you into purchasing more.

Then once they teach you all this great stuff they say…now all you have to do is promote my product! What? How does that position you as a leader? It doesn’t.

Your job is to build your business. There is a valid role for affiliate marketing in your business plan but you really should be focused on establishing a solid business of your own. To do that you really should stop everything your doing until you have built a website of your own.

The life-blood of any online business is traffic. Not traffic to your prepackaged MLM site, referral sites, affiliate sites…but YOUR website. This is how you establish yourself as a legitimate presence on the web. Your “networking” sites should serve as feeder sites to YOUR website.

Your website can then feed your other sites. In this way you position yourself so the search engines deliver free traffic to you. (targeted traffic) At that point you can deliver your message, pre-sell your visitors and direct them through your sales funnel.

Okay…so how do you build your business so it generates ongoing free traffic for years to come giving you the ability to promote anything you want to YOUR visitors?

Make it your business to help others build their businesses! Content is the currency of the internet. Build a website that delivers quality content your target market will value and you are finally on the road to internet success.

Network Marketing Success — Find your Starving Crowd

Someone once said, “Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.”

Henry David Thoreau said this originally. Thoreau, a famous 19th Century American writer and philosopher, had zero experience in business and spent most of his adult life living alone in the woods next to a pond. Nonetheless, he was considered a very smart man and was something of a celebrity so everyone assumed he knew what he was talking about.

But let’s take a closer look at his most famous quote. Essentially, this means that if you come up with a terrific product, you’ll sell tons of it and become successful.

Many of us MLMers believe this is the key to network marketing success, and we run our businesses accordingly. We assume that because we have terrific products, a great company, and an award-winning compensation plan we can’t fail. Everyone should naturally want to jump right in, yes?

If people aren’t jumping in, we think we just have to give them better information about our products, company and compensation plan. This belief results in the constant quest to find the Perfect Presentation. Or for some MLMers, the quest for the Perfect Company.

Does it really work this way?

Let’s look more closely at the mousetrap idea. Back when Thoreau wrote his famous line, mice were a major problem, and effective mousetraps must have been in high demand.

Things are pretty different now. I live in the suburbs, and I haven’t seen a mouse in over fifteen years. Neither have any of my neighbors.

Not much of an opportunity for mousetrap inventors here, is there?

Maybe Thoreau’s quote should be amended to say “Build a better mousetrap, AND find a bunch of people with major mouse issues, and those particular mouse-infested individuals will beat a path to your door.” (Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue as easily, but it’s more accurate.)

This illustrates a critically important point: The more hungry some people are for your product or service, the more of it you will sell. A total no-brainer, right?

As someone said recently, if you want to sell a lot of hamburgers, find a starving crowd.

In the case of network marketing and your opportunity, who is your starving crowd?

Clearly not your Uncle Harold, or your neighbor Gladys, or the guy in the next cubicle at work. Or anyone else you’ve been harrassing unsuccessfully.

What about other “perfect candidates” – realtors, insurance salesmen, your PTA president? Go-getters with experience and huge circles of influence. Well it depends… are they looking for an opportunity? Chances are they’re perfectly content doing what they’re already doing – hardly what you’d call starving.

So who IS your starving crowd? Who IS desperately looking for an opportunity?

For an answer to these critical questions, take a look in the nearest mirror. The person looking back at you is a perfect example of your ideal prospect.

You know that, of course. You’ve probably often thought to yourself, Why can’t I find someone just like me? Someone who’s ready to take action? Someone who’s already got the vision of what network marketing can do for them? Someone who WANTS to do this?

Admit it – you’re pretty hungry yourself.

Jewels like you definitely exist – in plenty of cases currently unattached to any company. But if you keep putting all your time and energy into the duds, you’ll never find the real gems.

Here’s a suggestion: Stop chasing the wrong people. Leave your family and friends alone. Forget about the latest and greatest script that’s supposed to light a fire under your lukewarm prospects. It won’t work. Even if you manage to manipulate them into signing the application form, they’ll probably never do anything.

Instead, spend your time and energy finding new ways to reach your real target market – your starving crowd. People just like you who are desperate for network marketing success.

Have You Mastered All Five Keys to Network Marketing Success?

Planning for success in network marketing and MLM is the first thing you must do when starting your business. This planning requires a combination of mental and physical action.

The physical actions include:

– getting organized
– deciding how you will generate leads
– planning how you will present your business
– creating a system to follow-up with your leads

The mental actions are where you:

– gear your mind and attitude up for success
– work on your beliefs and eliminate negatives
– acknowledge challenges and obstacles you’ll face
– prepare to overcome all challenges and obstacles

This article will touch on some of the mental preparation that is necessary for achievement. To build a strong and profitable business, there are five beliefs you must hold.

First, you must believe and have faith in network marketing as your vehicle to financial success. You must feel deep down that this is a legitimate and powerful way to make money. You can’t wait to tell others about it.

If you feel hesitant about telling someone that your business is about “network marketing”, you need to work on that attitude. That hesitation suggests that deep inside you have some doubts that need to be resolved.

Second, you need to understand that some of the worst scams will call themselves “network marketing” or “MLM” in an effort to look legitimate. You should understand that these scams are not a true picture of what your business really is. You’ll know what the difference is. You should always be prepared to explain the difference when asked.

Third, you must believe in your products and the company behind them. Do you believe your products are excellent and offer a great value? You should be your own best customer. If you’re not using your own products, how can you testify to others about their quality and effectiveness?

Your products are truly the foundation of your business. Without the right products, no amount of payout or bonus percentage will mean much in the long run.

Fourth, you must believe in the potential and value of other people. You should feel that your upline is on your team and solidly behind you. You must have faith and believe in the potential of those on your downline team. Each one is potentially a future leader in your company.

When a member of your downline team calls on you for help, believe in them and support their efforts. Some will seem to lack potential. Be patient. Understand that many top networkers started at the bottom and became wealthy because someone helped them along the way.

Finally, you must believe in yourself. You must know in your heart that you are in the right business. You must have reasons for building your business, goals for achievement, and the deep internal belief that you can make it happen.

There should be no doubt. You should have a deep sense of conviction that you are in the right place, doing the right thing.

If you master these five beliefs, and combine them with a proven system for network marketing success, you will be a winner and achiever in this business!

Best Network Marketing Opportunity — Finding Your System

Many people who want to make money from home are looking for the best network marketing opportunity. There are keys that make greatly increase the possibility of success.

A lot of people get off on the wrong foot in network marketing. The potential is there with some companies to build a solid income that you can retire on, but only if you have a tested, proven system that works to build your business. And part of that system needs to be an understanding of what prospects really want.

When you deliver real value to your prospects, you have a chance. If you can’t give them what they want, they will keep on looking. What they want is not complicated — they need to see if they like you, and if you like them. They want to know if your system is something they can do. Plus, they need to see whether you can help them.

You definitely need a strong plan to build relationships with people. And then on top of that, of course, you must be able to help them generate a steady stream of leads so they can build their business. If you can show that to them in a step-by-step simple plan, then you have a pretty good chance.

People must know it’s something they can do. Show them you have a simple system that works, and that it’s very easy for them to learn and to teach others. Help them see that they are in a system that is very duplicatable, which is exactly what they’ll need to for long-term success in MLM.

No matter what you do, you’re always best to study a successful model before you try to do it yourself. That goes double in MLM. It’s a good idea to search out a mentor who recently built his or her own successful MLM business. And it really does need to be recently, because the world of marketing has changed a ton, even in just the last 5 years.

Your ideal target is someone with a proven system of recruiting new people. And then you want to be certain that the new people that person has gotten started in the business have also been successful building, using the same system.

It’s important to see first-hand that both the system and the duplication are successful. It may well be a time-consuming search. But when you see exactly what you want, it is certainly a very valuable model for you.

You no doubt get calls from people who promise that if you sign up for their training, then you’ll be able to personally sign up 20 or 25 new people in your downline each week. Yes, that is theoretically possible. But you sure can’t do it if you’re building strong relationships with your people. So you can’t really believe that claim.

To find out for sure, just ask to be put on the line with the 20 people the caller signed up last week. That’s certainly fair. And chances are, that will end the conversation.

MLM Success: Secrets to Get Over the Fear of Talking to Strangers

Scared of Public Speaking? Cold Calling? Talking to Strangers?  Tim Sales reveals key strategies for conquering these barriers to your MLM success.

Diffusing live explosives can produce some enormous fears. But fear is not welcome while working on anything that blows up. It distracts one terribly. When I was in the U.S. Navy Underwater Bomb Squad, I was fortunate to have a Master Blaster, by the name of Master Chief Hufty, teach me how to overcome fear.

Little did I know the number of times I would recall this lesson, nor did he realize he helped me become a better public speaker and an MLM success story. I would like to share this valuable lesson of how to overcome fear with you.

Master Chief Hufty was probably the smallest physical man I ever met. He stood about 4′3″ and weighed around 95 pounds. Yet he is the largest man I’ve ever met. In the military when one achieves something praiseworthy, he/she receives “medals” to be worn at formal events. In non-formal situations he/she substitutes ribbons for metals.

The ribbons go above the left shirt pocket and each ribbon is approximately one-half inch high and one inch long. Master Chief Hufty had so many rows of ribbons they actually went over his shoulder and started down his back. He was the most decorated soldier I’d ever seen! To be educated by him was a true honor.

One afternoon we were working on a bomb and I freaked out…I’d rather not detail that portion of the story. But, Master Chief Hufty disassembled fear for me. He broke it down into digestible and visible parts so that I could “see” it and define each section and thus control it.

Since fear is a major problem for many MLM distributors, your MLM training needs to include how to overcome fear.

When we (you and me) encounter unpleasant or alarming conditions, our mind becomes a stage of conflicting voices. Some would define this as the Fight or Flight theory. Parts of us want to fight whatever we fear, and other parts of us want to run (flight) from what we fear.

Master Chief Hufty called it “mind chatter.” Fear, especially sudden fear, can cause the best in us to freeze. What is “freeze?” Freeze is stuck between fight and flight. If you neither fight nor flight you’re wasting your only asset: TIME.

To gain control of my thoughts again, Master Chief Hufty told me to repeat this sentence over and over, “First I do this, and then I do this, and then I do this.” By repeating this, I could slowly walk myself out of the “mind lock” by directing 100% of my attention to what I needed to do next.

Worst case scenario for a bomb squad technician is obviously death. Dwelling on harmful outcomes only leads to that reality. Yikes!

Now let’s take a look at the fear of public speaking and how this relates to your MLM business. As a network marketer, this could take the form of conference calls or MLM training and opportunity meetings. The fear is that you will look or sound stupid. What are the chances of delivering an intelligent presentation while mentally forecasting stupidity? Very low.

So what is the solution to the fear of public speaking?

1. Be prepared. Know what you’re going to say. Never “wing-it.” Before diffusing my first live bomb, I spent copious hours studying the anatomy of explosives. I furthered the learning process by role playing for days with dummy bombs. In our platoon we lived by the phrase, “The more you bleed in training, the less you bleed in combat.”

Bravery and success come from confidence in one’s own ability, not from placing oneself at risk. The same principle applies to MLM prospecting and public speaking. Study your materials, prepare your notes and role play what you will say into a tape recorder. When you stand up in front of people, just think: “First I’ll say this; then I’ll say this.”

2. Don’t focus your attention on you. Focus your attention on your audience. If you’re scared, you’re thinking of you instead of your audience. Put 100% of your attention on your audience and what they most need to hear from you. Rarely does a speaker sound “stupid” if they’re focused on helping their audience.

You must earn the right to being a great public speaker. There are no natural public speakers. It takes practice, persistence and more practice to truly master the art of public speaking. If you will take the time to think through each step and learn how to bypass the mind chatter, you can improve your abilities to present a great conference call, conduct an electrifying MLM training seminar or host a successful opportunity meeting.

They may talk about the subject, but you must SEE it. They have to confirm they make choices primarily based on long term growth, not short term profits. Talk to folk and see if they have made any recent changes to the compensation plan, or the needs to be accepted for your check, or consistent changes in product pricing.

If they have, and it isn’t the first time, beware. They are thinking short term profits. Owners that are serious, have proven to do what they need to do internally, in house first, and only as a last resort take money from the field. And ask around, and even see if you can talk to one of the top earners, or one of the owners themselves.

Is it a very original product, or honestly, just another’me too’ product or product line? Me too products can fade from view in the marketplace quickly in MLM. Yes, there may be many skin care, weight reduction, make up, nutritive products out there, but the product you are considering must have a unique’sizzle’ to it that sets it apart. There are many vitamin products, but what does the product have that makes it unique? This is a huge test for long-term product viability, as well as what the subsequent products will be like.
An MLM opportunity could have products that come across as graceful, horny, and hot.

This is huge. They need to become Ph.Ds, not build a wealth manufacturing business. Some MLM opportunites attract people that are more targeted on short term gain, then long-term stability. Some companies attract mostly the older crowd. Some network marketing firms attract mostly folk under 30.

you’ve got to have a mixture. Not so heavy on either. Today’s MLM opportunites that are going great guns, appear to have a great mixture of ages, and the average age isn’t too inexperienced, but yet, not so old.
Check them with who you are taking a look at, and see where they stand, and how they add up.
Yes, these things are what the general public don’t look for, and my proposal is you do. They speak volumes about your future with an MLM opportunity.

MLM Success – How Bad Do you Want It?

Every time I turn around somebody is making an excuse why they can’t become successful in their MLM business. I don’t have enough money, or time, or education or nobody believes in me or, well you get the point.

Excuses are everywhere.

A little more than a decade ago, before MLM changed my life, I was driving an ugly green Ford Probe with more than 100,000 miles and bald tires. I actually thought it was a cool car when I bought it, but that’s another story.

I had been in Chicago doing a meeting with the owners of our MLM company (I was the MC) and I got this crazy idea to expand my business in Chicago. Sound familiar? You get caught up in all the excitement that you just want to dive in. You start making plans that you’ll never actually do anything about.

In all the excitement of this meeting it sounded like a good idea, but you see I live in Dallas and I didn’t have the money to fly to Chicago. The reality of my sad financial situation hit me like a ton of bricks.

Well so much for that idea. I don’t have the money, perhaps the biggest excuse that MLM failures will ever use. When you don’t have the money, you don’t have the money right? Wrong!

Instead of thinking you can’t afford it, start asking yourself how you we afford it. Then it hit me I’ll just drive to Chicago in an ugly car with more than 100,000 miles and bald tires! But I don’t have the money to stay even one night in a hotel! SO I guess I can’t go right? Wrong.

I’ll just drive by myself for 22 hours straight. Sounds crazy doesn’t it? If i need to sleep I can just stop in a rest area. How bad do you want MLM success and what are you willing to do to get it? Then another obstacle popped up. Where am I going to stay when I get to Chicago?

I met a really nice lady in Chicago and she said that Chicago needed somebody like me (I was in the “fake it till you make it” mode at that time, I was really really broke, but at least I thought I knew what I was doing) and she offered to let me stay with her.

When I called this really nice woman to take her up on her offer she said “can’t you find somebody else to stay with?” Not exactly what you would call a warm welcome now was it? Well I guess I can’t afford to go to Chicago right? Wrong.

I didn’t let that stop me, and so I was on my way to stay with a total stranger, a 60 year old woman on the south side of Chicago, that I had just met and had talked with for only 5 minutes!

Some people might call me bold, some might call me crazy and some might say that I’m stupid! Wait till you hear the whole story before you pass judgment. On that trip I recruited one guy and only one guy. Sounds like a waste of time and money that one guy has become massively successful, earning more than 0,000 a year for himself and in the process has made me somewhere around 0,000! Now who’s laughing?

I’m sure that I’m not the only person in the history of MLM to drive nonstop for more than 21 hours in a broken down ugly car with 100,000 miles and bald tires and stay with a woman they had just met to work in a city where they didn’t have a single appointment on the hopes that it would payoff!

Yeah I know that was one long sentence but hey when you want something bad enough you’re willing to break a few rules to get it, right?

Most people won’t drive 30 or 40 minutes to grow their MLM business because although they may say they want to become successful, how bad do they really want it? Are you one of those people? How far is to far to drive if it will change your life forever?

So how bad do you want it? If you truly desire life changing MLM success, then you will do whatever it takes. We’ve already made 0,000 because I wanted success so bad that I could taste it. The rest of the story? That one trip will probably pay us MILLIONS over the lifetime of our relationship with just one person.

That trip to Chicago more than a decade ago has altered the course of my life and the lives of the people that I am closest to. What if? What if the thought of driving 986 miles nonstop was too much and I never went to Chicago. How many lives would have been affected?

By the way this doesn’t mean that you have to drive an ugly car with bald tires and more than 100,000 miles across the country to become successful in MLM, but it helps. Broke people typically stay broke because they have a broke persons mindset. What’s your mindset right now?

When you want what you have never had you must be willing to do what you have never done! So be honest with yourself, how bad do you really want MLM success?

A professional network marketing company will supply you with inspirations media such as books and tapes. Some might even tell you that you are not suitable to be working with unless you read particular materials. A big dose of positive, inspirational and motivational material will build your self esteem while it is building your business; from there you will certainly influence others.

Your mind is an awesome network marketing took when filled with positive attitude, but a deadly stopper if it is not set to the right focus, a negative attitude will stop you and your potential network marketing success short. A negative mind cannot possibly influence others to success. Communication within the system, with your uplines and your team. You can deliver all the pamphlets and posters you like but if you cannot connect with others you might as well lay down now.

Prospecting and sponsoring quality team members is key to network marketing success.  And when prospecting in Network Marketing, you’re sure to run across all types of people–people looking to make a little extra money each month, people who want a complete lifestyle change, people who want to get rich quick, and people who are willing to work hard in order to make it big.  You’ll find that some types of people make great Network Marketers, while others are probably better off sticking with their J.O.B.  I’ve found that the busiest people are often the best ones to sponsor.  Here’s why.

Busy people are generally successful people.  They have a lot going on in their lives, and they know how to organize and prioritize in order to achieve the most.  You don’t have to teach your busy new recruit that sitting in front of the television isn’t going to help them reach their goals and dreams.  They already know that, and it’s not a major lifestyle change for them to have more on their agenda than eat, sleep, go to work and watch TV.

Another reason busy people are often the best Network Marketers is that when they join a network marketing company, it’s because they see the value and possibilities that Network Marketing provides.  It’s not because they’re looking for something else to do in their spare time!  They’re already busy, and may not really have time for a business…but they see what Network Marketing has to offer, and they’re willing to make time.  When someone sees the brilliance of Network Marketing, they’re a lot more likely to take things and run with them.

Finally, busy people make great Network Marketers because they know how to take action.  You know they take action in life because their schedules prove it!  They tend to be self-starters who look at what needs to be done and then get to work doing it.  Perhaps the biggest factor in achieving success in network marketing is taking action, and people who are busy don’t need poking and prodding in order to start taking action.  They know that taking action is key to achieving success in anything, so they’re ready to get moving as soon as they sign up.
